Terms of Service
Last updated October 24, 2026
These terms describe the basic rules for using FIELDNOTES and the limits of its research, storage, Drive, and AI features.
Using FIELDNOTES
FIELDNOTES is a visual research workspace for organizing notes, sources, Canvas relationships, timelines, and supporting files. You need a Google account to access a private workspace. You are responsible for keeping access to your account secure and for activity carried out through it.
Use FIELDNOTES lawfully and do not attempt to access another person's workspace, interfere with the service, or use it to store or distribute material you have no right to use.
Your research and files
You retain your rights to the research and other material you add. You give FIELDNOTES permission to store, process, display, and transfer that material only as needed to operate the features you choose, including attachment storage, backups, and a requested AI Short Note.
You are responsible for ensuring that you may upload and process your material, including sending PDF text to OpenAI when you request an AI Short Note. AI-generated notes can be incomplete or incorrect; review them against the original source before relying on them.
Google Drive and other services
Drive connection is optional and is governed by the Google permissions you grant. FIELDNOTES uses the narrow drive.file scope for app-related files. Disconnecting Drive revokes FIELDNOTES's stored connection credentials but does not delete files from your Google Drive. Deleting a Drive-backed attachment from FIELDNOTES can delete the corresponding Drive file after it is no longer referenced.
FIELDNOTES relies on third-party services for hosting, database, private file storage, Google authentication and Drive, and optional AI generation. Their availability, terms, and privacy practices are separate from these Terms.
Workspace Backup
Workspace Backup is designed to preserve research records and references, not attachment binaries or credentials. You are responsible for keeping needed original files in an accessible location. A backup may not restore an attachment that was removed from Drive or is no longer accessible to the connected account.
Availability and changes
FIELDNOTES may change as the service is maintained. Features can depend on third-party services, Google permissions, account configuration, and storage availability. Keep your own copies of important research and source files. Do not treat AI-generated content as professional, legal, medical, or other expert advice.
You may stop using FIELDNOTES at any time. Account-level deletion is not currently self-service; use the support email on the Google sign-in consent screen to request account closure or data deletion. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that applicable law does not allow the operator to limit.
